Amman: The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) and the University of Jordan have commenced preparations for the first phase of the "Beautification and Development of Downtown Amman" project. Officials recently conducted a coordination meeting to review several heritage sites in downtown Amman, recognizing them as potential focal points for an integrated tourism route that leverages the area's archaeological and architectural significance.
According to Jordan News Agency, a joint technical team will be responsible for conducting field surveys of the proposed heritage sites. The team aims to identify a priority area that will serve as the starting point for restoration and redevelopment efforts.
Mohammed Abu Zaytoun, the director of the Old Amman Neighbourhoods Project, stated that this initiative is a part of GAM's larger strategy to rejuvenate the historic center of Amman and transform it into a bustling cultural and tourism hub. The project will concentrate on restoring heritage buildings, upgrading infrastructure, and highlighting neglected archaeological landmarks. It will also incorporate academic expertise to ensure adherence to best practices in preservation and development.
Experts from the University of Jordan have presented proposals for scientific restoration techniques for heritage structures. They also discussed urban planning concepts aimed at integrating tourism routes into the city's existing infrastructure while maintaining its visual identity.
