Fayez: Jordan harnesses its capabilities to serve Iraq’s security, stability

Senate President, Faisal Fayez, said on Wednesday, that Jordan is putting all its capabilities at Iraq’s disposal to restore its security and stability and supports Bagdad in the war on terrorism and extremism.

Fayez, at discussions with the First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Hassan Karim Al-Kaabi, and the accompanying parliamentary delegation, reviewed Iraq’s stances towards the Kingdom.

“We in Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, believe that Iraq’s security and stability are a Jordanian interest, refuse interference in its affairs, and are keen on its territorial integrity,” Fayez told the Iraqi lawmakers.

Fayez highlighted the “high” level of the brotherly bilateral relations, which are “deep-rooted historically and strategically based on mutual respect and common interests.”

Fayez noted Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty, is keen to develop bilateral relations to a “strategic” level based on principles that serve common interests, stressing the importance of increasing joint cooperation, especially in the political, economic and investment fields, activating bilateral agreements, and facilitating movement of trade between the two countries.

Al-Kaabi, for his part, said his country lauds Jordan’s support to Iraq to achieve its security, stability and territorial integrity, pointing to the “vast” commonalities that unite the two brotherly peoples.

The Iraqi lawmaker highlighted importance of the the tripartite summit held in Bagdad recently that brought together Jordan’s, Iraq’s, Egypt’s leaders, which has produced a “significant” impact on the regional and international arenas.

To achieve integration, he said capabilities of Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt qualify them to form a unified Arab economic bloc.

Iraq, he said, believes that resources alone cannot achieve the desired comprehensive sustainable development, unless there are partners, common goals, in addition to various capabilities to be harnessed to serve Arab people’s interests.

The discussions also tackled the importance of building on and strengthening Arab relations in various fields and sectors, especially the economic and investment fields, which would address the economic and development challenges in the two countries, according to Senate statement.
