Amman: A father and his son were charged on Tuesday with premeditated murder after confessing to drowning their 13-year-old family member in a water well in the southern Karak governorate, according to the Public Security Directorate (PSD).
According to Jordan News Agency, Civil Defense crews responded on July 18 to a report that a young girl had drowned in a well near her family's tent. Rescue crews retrieved the child, but she was pronounced dead shortly after.
Following an initial probe, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) detectives and Karak police suspected foul play in the death, narrowing their investigation to the girl's immediate family.
Under interrogation, the girl's father admitted to conspiring with one of his sons to throw her into the well and disguise the murder as an accidental drowning. Police subsequently arrested the son, who confessed to carrying out the act.
The PSD said both suspects were referred to the Grand Prosecution for further legal proceedings.
