Amman: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has signed an agreement with the Sustainable Scientific Vision for Engineering and Environment (SSV) to bolster community and civil society involvement in climate change adaptation efforts across the regions of Madaba, Karak, Tafilah, and Ma’an.
According to Jordan News Agency, the agreement is part of the Building Resilience to Climate Change in Jordan through Improving Water Use Efficiency in the Agricultural Sector (BRCCJ) project. This initiative aims to integrate adaptation strategies into existing policies while encouraging collaboration among public and private sector entities and civil society.
The partnership will offer training to over 500 individuals, including farmers, female-headed households, and municipal employees. These workshops are designed to raise awareness about climate change adaptation techniques.
FAO Representative in Jordan, Nabil Assaf, noted that the agreement enhances community-driven responses to climate issues. He emphasized the importance of awareness and cooperation in achieving sustainable food security and advancing agricultural development.
SSV Managing Director Eyad Batarseh expressed optimism about the positive effects on local communities. He highlighted the promotion of knowledge and training on environmental and agricultural best practices, stressing the necessity for ongoing partnerships in this area.
The BRCCJ project, with a budget of $33.25 million, focuses on strengthening resilience to climate change in water-scarce regions, particularly within the Dead Sea Basin governorates.
