Family Health Institute Branches in Irbid, Karak Accredited as Child Safe Centers

Amman: The Family Health Institute, affiliated with the King Hussein Foundation, has announced that its branches in Irbid and Karak governorates have been accredited as child safe centers, receiving the KPASS certification from the Kidproof Global Child Protection Program.

According to Jordan News Agency, the accreditation recognizes the branches’ compliance with rigorous standards and the implementation of approved child protection policies and procedures, achieved under the supervision and training of the Intellectual Development Company.

This milestone is part of two key projects currently implemented by the Institute: the “Promoting Eye Health for Children in Schools and Community Settings in Jordan” project, funded by the Fred Hollows Foundation, and the “Child Protection – Prevention and Response for Boys and Girls Survivors of or at Risk of Violence, Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation among Vulnerable Groups of Syrians, Jordanians, and Other Minorities” project, funded by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The Institute noted that the accreditation aims to ensure a safe and child-friendly environment within its facilities, enabling staff to apply best practices in child protection, detect and prevent abusive behavior, provide psychological and social support, and enhance community awareness.

Staff at the accredited centers underwent intensive training under the supervision of Thakaa Company, which included developing comprehensive child protection policies encompassing safe hiring practices, risk management, child engagement protocols, and standardized reporting mechanisms for abuse. Field assessments were also conducted to verify full compliance with international standards.

The statement highlighted that the Family Health Institute has previously earned national accreditations and certifications as a center of excellence in various domains, including reproductive and sexual health services for youth, domestic violence interventions, and comprehensive family healthcare.

It is also recognized for facilitating access to services for people with disabilities and operates a distinguished health services model aligned with the World Health Organization’s three-dimensional health framework. Additionally, the Institute provides specialized services for victims of torture and survivors of violence.
