Expanding, rehabilitating health facilities “ongoing”: Health Ministry

The Health Ministry said that development and modernization plans are ongoing to expand the quality health services provided in its hospitals and health centers in various governorates of the Kingdom.

Anas Qatatsheh, Director of Public Relations and Media at the ministry told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the ministry has worked within one year to establish and expand 35 health centers, to provide better primary health care and to relieve pressure on secondary health care.

He added that several primary health centers have been transferred into comprehensive centers, in addition to conducting periodic maintenance of health centers and providing them with devices, equipment and means of transportation, and enhancing their ability to provide quality and efficient services.

In response to Petra’s questions on hospitals and health centers in which infrastructure is being developed, Qatatsheh explained that the process of expansion and development aims to invest in human resources and medical cadres, rehabilitate buildings and expand hospitals, departments, clinics and health centers in all governorates of the Kingdom.

He noted that during the process of developing the infrastructure or performing maintenance for health facilities, the provision of health services does not stop and is provided in the nearest health center or hospital with the transfer of cadres to provide health services temporarily to ensure that they do not stop until work is completed in the hospital or health center to be developed.

He indicated that the ministry started implementing a plan to integrate primary health centers into comprehensive centers, to improve health services and to become quality centers, as 4 centers affiliated to the Health Affairs Directorate in Zarqa Governorate were merged to become a comprehensive health center.

He pointed out that the ministry is working to expand the provision of primary and health care services, through an action plan that includes its health centers, via evening shifts, in addition to strengthening several health centers with specialized doctors from different medical specialties.

Qatatsha said that the construction process of the new Al-Ruwaished Hospital is underway and is expected to be officially opened soon, noting that work is also underway to maintain and develop new buildings at Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II Hospital in Ain Al Basha District.
