Euro-Med Rights Monitor Warns of “Catastrophic” Starvation in Gaza

Gaza: The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor Saturday warned of “a catastrophic” famine in the Gaza Strip due to Israel’s blockade that went on for 62 days, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid, medicines, and essential goods. It documented a sharp rise in adult mortality rates, along with alarming levels of child mortality, during the longest and ongoing total blockade imposed by Israel since the beginning of the war.

According to Jordan News Agency, the monitor issued an urgent appeal to all countries of the world and relevant international organizations to take immediate action to break the illegal Israeli blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip by land, sea, and air, as a “flagrant violation” of international humanitarian law, and is being used as a tool to starve a civilian population within the ongoing genocide there.

It called for an immediate end to the total closure of crossings and ensure an unimpeded and effective entry of food, water, and medicine, before severe malnutrition spreads and becomes more deadly and life-threatening on a large scale.
