Amman:The Ministry of Environment and the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) are collaborating on a project to plant trees and plants across 200 vacant plots in Amman, aiming to enhance the city's green space and improve its urban and environmental landscape.
According to Jordan News Agency, this initiative is part of a broader effort to boost cooperation between the two entities and align with national goals to improve urban living conditions. The project seeks to expand green spaces, enhance public space aesthetics, mitigate heat island effects, and bolster the urban environment's resilience to climate change.
The memorandum of understanding between the ministry and GAM outlines plans to identify suitable sites for planting based on priorities and technical and environmental criteria. It also includes selecting appropriate plant species that are efficient in water use and compatible with local climate conditions while facilitating the exchange of technical expertise.
Additionally, the partnership involves monitoring the environmental impact of these initiatives, enhancing the use of available spaces within Amman, and converting them into green areas that contribute to urban landscape improvements and environmental sustainability.
