Energy Fund and Mercy Corps Launch Solar Initiative in Azraq

Azraq:Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Saleh Kharabsheh has signed an agreement between the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF) and Mercy Corps to promote sustainable energy solutions in the Azraq district. This partnership, established under the "Tabiaa" project, aims to enhance the resilience of local communities against climate change impacts.

According to Jordan News Agency, the initiative will involve the installation of solar water heating systems for over 40 low-income households. Additionally, the program will offer training to young people in renewable energy and energy efficiency, aiming to improve their employment prospects.

JREEEF CEO Rasmi Hamzeh highlighted that the project will be carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development. It includes the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of solar systems, alongside community awareness sessions on energy efficiency.

Mercy Corps Programs Director Candice Branchoux emphasized that the project not only provides solar systems but also focuses on training and raising community awareness. The goal is to foster job opportunities for the youth and improve the living conditions of the beneficiary households.

Hamzeh expressed the hope that this partnership would serve as a foundation to expand future programs to cover broader areas, thereby enhancing the sustainability of local communities.
