Amman: Jordan and Japan on Tuesday held the eighth meeting of the Jordanian-Japanese Dialogue on Economic Development Policy, aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation. The meeting was a platform for reviewing development projects funded through Japanese assistance and examining future support priorities.
According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting was attended by senior officials from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Director-General of the International Cooperation Bureau Ishizuki Hideo, alongside representatives from the Japanese Embassy in Amman, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Japan, and its office in Jordan, headed by Morihata Shingo. Officials from the Jordanian Ministries of Planning and International Cooperation and Finance were also present.
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan expressed gratitude towards the Japanese government and people for their continued support of Jordan's development projects and technical assistance. She highlighted the strategic partnership between the two nations and acknowledged JICA's role in executing development projects and bolstering institutional capacity, particularly in the energy and water sectors.
Toukan provided an overview of Jordan's recent economic developments and outlined the country's development priorities within the framework of the second executive programme of the Economic Modernisation Vision 2026-2029. The dialogue also encompassed discussions on Japan's aid policy, including ongoing projects, upcoming initiatives, and technical assistance programmes.
The Japanese delegation showed a keen interest in supporting Jordan's water, energy, health, and tourism sectors, and both sides deliberated on cooperation priorities for the near future. They exchanged views on strengthening coordination mechanisms and enhancing cooperation's effectiveness to support Jordan's economic stability and sustainable development.
Both countries emphasized the importance of continuing structured policy dialogue as a means to deepen their long-term partnership. They agreed to maintain close communication and ongoing dialogue at the administrative and executive levels, aligning with Jordan's development priorities. The Japanese side reaffirmed the strength of the Jordanian-Japanese partnership and reiterated its commitment to supporting Jordan's development priorities under the Economic Modernisation Vision, contributing to sustainable development and reinforcing the country's security and stability.
