Cairo: Egypt will host the G20 meeting on food security from September 1-3, marking the first time this event will be held outside the group’s member nations since its founding in 1999, as announced by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
According to Jordan News Agency, the ministry emphasized that the gathering represents an unprecedented development and highlights international recognition of Egypt’s significant role on the global stage. This event is seen as a crowning achievement of Egypt’s participation as a guest nation in this year’s G20 meetings for the third consecutive time and the fifth overall.
Cairo’s selection to host the meeting underscores its regional influence and contributions to tackling pressing international challenges. The focus will be on supporting multilateral negotiations and addressing the priorities and concerns of developing countries, with a particular emphasis on African nations, as noted by Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister Ragui El-Etreby.
The meeting will address the growing challenges facing global food security, featuring broad participation from member states and guest countries under South Africa’s presidency. It will also include representatives from various international organizations and global financial institutions.
