Amman: Jordan's Ministry of Education and the British Council have taken a significant step forward in enhancing English-language education by signing a second amended annex to their existing agreement. The move aims to expand the Education for Success program, which is designed to train English-language teachers in Jordanian public schools.
According to Jordan News Agency, the agreement was formalized by Minister of Education Azmi Mahafzah and Alex Lambert, the British Council's Country Director for Jordan and Levant Cluster Lead. The signing ceremony was graced by the presence of British Ambassador to Amman Philip Hall, the ministry's director of legal affairs department Mostafa Rousan, and Nisreen Saleh, head of English programmes at the British Council.
During the ceremony, Minister Mahafzah emphasized the ministry's commitment to work "closely" with the British Council to improve the skills of in-service teachers. He expressed satisfaction with the collaboration between Jordanian and British expertise, which is expected to enhance learning outcomes significantly.
The revised agreement will expand the scope of the Education for Success program to train English-language teachers and supervisors in public schools across Jordan. The initiative targets training 4,000 English teachers annually until the end of March 2029. This expansion will impact a total of 4,000 teachers and educational supervisors across all education directorates in the country.
The training activities are planned to be a blend of various methods and will commence following an implementation plan approved by both parties. Additionally, both sides have agreed that the British Council will complete the training for all educational supervisors who have yet to finish their training classes under the first amended annex, in coordination with the Ministry of Education.
