Amman: The Electricity Distribution Company (EDCO) has entered a cooperation agreement with ElementsX, a drone technology company, to incorporate unmanned aircraft systems into its network monitoring and inspection activities. This strategic move aims to enhance operational efficiency and improve safety measures within EDCO's infrastructure.
According to Jordan News Agency, the initiative is part of EDCO's broader effort to modernize its operations by integrating drone systems equipped with artificial intelligence. This technology will allow for precise fault detection and the facilitation of predictive maintenance through the analysis of images and data. It will help identify early signs of issues such as overheating, corrosion, and vegetation encroachment, preventing them from developing into significant faults or power outages.
This collaboration is expected to strengthen the resilience of EDCO's network and enhance service quality for its subscribers. Additionally, by reducing the need for manual inspections in challenging areas, the company aims to elevate occupational safety standards for its workforce through the adoption of secure, cutting-edge digital solutions.
Engineer Reem Hamdan Saudi, General Manager of EDCO, emphasized the company's ongoing commitment to advancing its operational capabilities through modern technologies. She highlighted that the agreement with ElementsX will culminate in a comprehensive suite of drone-based services. These services will include high-resolution aerial imagery of EDCO's sites and facilities, routine surveillance of extensive electricity distribution lines, and the early identification and management of potential faults and risk factors.
