Amman:The Economic and Social Council (ESC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, organized a consultation session to discuss the perspectives of the private sector regarding the challenges, investment opportunities, and development priorities in Jordan's tourism industry.
According to Jordan News Agency, the session highlighted the results of a NOISE analysis, part of a comprehensive study evaluating the tourism sector's economic significance, competitiveness, and return on investment. The study aims to find ways to enhance the sector's performance and its contribution to the national economy, in alignment with the Economic Modernization Vision.
ESC President Musa Shteiwi noted that the NOISE analysis is just one element of the study and does not encompass its entire findings or scope. The broader assessment covers the sector's economic importance, competitiveness, investment climate, legislative and regulatory environment, and returns on investment. Shteiwi underscored the value of engaging private-sector representatives to integrate their insights and expertise into the study, which will aid in formulating comprehensive recommendations and a practical roadmap for improving the sector's competitiveness and sustainability.
The NOISE analysis addressed the sector's needs, opportunities, strengths, exceptions, and challenges from the perspective of the private sector, aiming to identify priorities and develop actionable recommendations. Participants in the session discussed the obstacles faced by tourism businesses, opportunities to attract investment, improve tourism services and products, and the necessity for a supportive investment and regulatory environment. They also emphasized the need for enhanced coordination among relevant institutions to address the sector's needs and development priorities.
The study will evaluate Jordan's tourism competitiveness relative to regional and other competing destinations, assess the economic and social returns on tourism investments, and examine the sector's role in sustainable local development, including the effectiveness of road connections between tourist sites. Its conclusions will contribute to a national roadmap outlining policies, recommendations, and implementation measures to bolster the industry's competitiveness and long-term sustainability.
The research involves analyzing domestic and international data, reviewing existing research, and conducting field visits and consultations with public- and private-sector stakeholders. A more extensive meeting with tourism representatives and relevant authorities will be convened to review the draft findings and finalize the recommendations and proposed roadmap.
