Amman: The Department of Statistics (DoS) has released its monthly report detailing urban development and building permits in the Kingdom.
According to Jordan News Agency, the total area of licensed buildings in 2025 reached 10.26 million square meters, an increase from 9.03 million square meters in 2024, marking a 13.6% rise.
The report highlighted that the total number of building permits issued was 26,717, up from 23,902 in 2024, indicating an 11.8% increase. This growth in licensed area outpaced the growth in the number of permits, suggesting an expansion in building area per permit in 2025 compared to the previous year. On a monthly basis, licensed areas surged from 0.902 million square meters in December 2024 to 1.140 million square meters in December 2025, reflecting a 26.4% monthly growth rate.
Regarding licensing purposes, the DoS survey revealed that the area licensed for residential purposes was 8.01 million square meters, up from 7.12 million in 2024, a 12.5% increase. Non-residential licensed building areas reached approximately 2.24 million square meters, compared to 1.91 million in 2024, representing a 17.3% rise. This data suggests a faster rate of building for residential purposes than for non-residential ones.
The survey further showed that residential purposes constituted 77.7% of the total licensed building area, while non-residential purposes accounted for 22.3%. Regionally, the central region of the Kingdom accounted for 71.7% of the total licensed building area in 2025, increasing by 7.2%. Conversely, the northern and southern regions saw decreases of 11.7% and 20.8%, respectively, compared to 2024.
In terms of relative distribution of licensed residential areas, the capital governorate recorded the highest percentage at 13.3%, with an area of 0.920 square meters per person. Zarqa governorate recorded the lowest at 4.4%, with 0.304 square meters per person in 2025.
The licensed area for new buildings and additions to existing blocks made up 62.6% of the total licensed building area in 2025, while existing buildings constituted 37.4%. The total area for new constructions and additions reached approximately 6.4 million square meters, up from 5.7 million in 2024, showing a 12.3% increase.
