Development centers’ committees in camps stresses commitment to UNRWA workers rights

Local committees, affiliated to community development centers in the camps in Jordan reaffirmed their commitment to the role and rights of workers in the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

UNRWA is the key witness to the rights of Palestinian refugees and a supporter of them according to United Nations resolutions, the committees said Sunday in a statement.

They said they refuse that the agency would abandon its goals for which it was established which is to provide services to refugees and serve their issues and rights.

The committees underlined their support for Jordan’s clear stance on the need to support the continuation of UNRWA’s legal, humanitarian and moral responsibilities towards Palestinian refugees, despite efforts to collect donations from donor countries to support the agency, and reduce its financial deficit, until a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue is found.

They added that UNRWA is the guardian of the community development centers in the camps, as they called on the UNRWA to continue paying salaries of specialists in the centers and keep direct technical, administrative and financial support going to them.

They said that UNRWA’s failure to comply with all its commitments and obligations towards the community development centers constitutes a real challenge, and threatens to shut them down and deprive thousands of refugees of services of these centers.
