Customs Department foils drug smuggling attempt at Jaber border crossing

The Jordan Customs Department (JCD) on Saturday said that it had foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotic pills at the Jaber border crossing, in cooperation with relevant security bodies at the checkpoint.

The pills were found during a thorough inspection of two trucks coming from a neighboring country, the JCD said Saturday in a statement.

JCD personnel suspected that the first truck that was loaded with rolls (plastic pipes), and searched it by an x-ray machine and found inside 148kg of Captagon narcotic pills, estimated at 880,000 pills, the statement added.

The other truck was also searched and about 80kg, which constitute 480,000 narcotic pills, were found in secret place inside the truck, the statement explained.

Immediately, a report of the seized quantity was prepared and handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Department – Jaber Branch, and trucks and drivers were put in custody pending the completion of investigation procedures.
