Adviser to the Prime Minister for Health Affairs, responsible for the coronavirus file, Dr. Adel Balbisi, said the 10th epidemiological week of 2022, which runs from March 5 to 11, saw 25,502 Covid-19 cases, compared to 39,979 infections in the ninth week, marking a drop of about 36%.
In his interview with “Petra” on Sunday, he said 77 additional deaths were recorded in the 10th epidemiological week, compared to 97 fatalities during the last 9th week, a decrease of 21%.
Percentage of positive tests also went down by 41%, as the number of PCR tests that were conducted during the 10th week reached 115,826, compared with 19,606 tests, a week earlier, he pointed out.
In addition, he noted the percentage of positive tests in the 10th epidemiological week was 22%, compared to 20.4% during the 9th week, an increase of about 8%.
The number of cases currently receiving treatment in hospitals reached 421, compared to 603 during the 9th week, marking a drop of about 30%, he added.
Regarding the active cases in the 10th week, he said the number amounted to 18,954, compared to 67,959 during the ninth week, a decrease of about 72%, indicating that the reason is due to the start of calculating the 5-day isolation period from the beginning of this month.
Percentage of the 10th week’s Covid-19 infections among the age group from 10 to 17 years stood at 19%, compared to 26% during the previous week, while percentage of cases among the age group from 6 to 9 years was 4%, compared to 8% during the previous week, according to Balbisi.
Regarding the national immunization program, he noted the number of people who received the first, second, and booster doses during the 10th week amounted to 17,302, 22,917, and 25,174, respectively with a total of 65,393, compared to 76,523 during the 9th week, with a drop of about 15%.
To date, a total of 4,712, 607 people took the first dose, with a 73% of the target group of 18 years and over, while second dose recipients stood at 4,411, 031, with a percentage of 69% of the same target group, he announced.
