Constitutional Court Nullifies Teachers’ Syndicate Law

Amman: The Constitutional Court, in a ruling issued Thursday by its full bench, declared the Jordanian Teachers’ Syndicate Law No. 14 of 2011 and all its amendments unconstitutional, rendering the law null and void as of the date of the ruling.

According to Jordan News Agency, the decision has significant implications for the legal framework governing teachers’ associations in the country. The law, which was enacted over a decade ago, has been a pivotal piece of legislation for the organization and operation of the teachers’ syndicate. The nullification raises questions about the future governance and representation of teachers in Jordan.

The ruling is expected to impact ongoing discussions regarding labor rights and educational policy reform. Government officials and educational stakeholders are anticipated to convene to discuss the next steps in addressing the void left by the annulled legislation. The court’s decision may also lead to increased dialogue about the legal structures supporting professional syndicates in Jordan.
