Conference recommends action to develop tourist trails countrywide

A conference organized by Yarmouk University recommended additional efforts to increase interest in tourist trails in the Kingdom’s outlying areas and developing Irbid downtown attractions to help achieve sustainable development process.

The 7th Conference of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management, entitled “Tourism and Hospitality in a Changing World” called for integrating artificial intelligence tools, keeping pace with technological developments in the tourism and hospitality sector, introduction of digital tourism concepts, and awareness of the importance to learn ways to protect antiquities.

Conference Chairman, Dr. Atef Shiyab, said the event’s key recommendations focused on making further action to promote sustainability concepts in tourist destinations and efforts to revive role of the local community in the tourism and hospitality sectors, adding that the launch of Master’s degree in digital tourism and hospitality, which would pave the way for a future doctoral program in this field in Yarmouk University.

The conference, which was organized by the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels at Yarmouk University, also advised additional marketing measures to alleviate the Covid-19 pandemic-induced consequences and employing conference tourism as an “effective” tool in reducing seasonal tourism ‘adverse’ impacts, Shiyab told the conference’s closing session.

In addition, Shiyab said the two-day event, which saw Arab and foreign participation, discussed several issues, parimarily ways to achieve Royal visions to make reform and change in Jordan’s tourism and antiquities sector and solutions to address the pandemic’s effects on Jordan’s tourism activities.
