Conference Opens in Mafraq to Promote Climate-Smart Agriculture

Mafraq: The national conference titled “Sustainable Agriculture Project Towards Integrated Food Security” was launched on Tuesday in Mafraq governorate. The event was inaugurated by Director General of the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC), Dr. Ibrahim Rawashdeh, in partnership with several international and local entities.

According to Jordan News Agency, the conference, organized jointly with Helvetas, an independent Swiss development organization, emphasized the importance of sustainable agriculture by building small farmers’ capacity to integrate climate-smart agriculture (CSA). This model serves as an effective tool for adapting to climate change and achieving food security by enhancing local production and adopting sustainable agricultural practices.

During the opening ceremony, Rawashdeh highlighted the significance of the conference within the framework of Royal directives, the Economic Modernization Vision, and the National Sustainable Development Plan. He noted its role in enhancing food security and addressing climate challenges. Rawashdeh also emphasized NARC’s contribution to transferring agricultural technology and improving the capabilities of local communities.

Project Director Dr. Mohammad Shboul stated that strengthening farmers’ potentials and empowering rural women are essential components of a successful transition to sustainable agriculture. Shboul emphasized the need for continued collaborative efforts among all stakeholders to achieve agricultural development goals.

As part of the project’s activities, practical training programs were conducted in Mafraq and Irbid governorates, targeting 336 beneficiaries. This included 204 male and 132 female farmers in Mafraq, as part of integrated efforts to enhance their efficiency in applying climate-smart agriculture techniques.
