Islamabad: Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Chaudhry, the Coordinator General of the Standing Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMSTECH), conducted a significant virtual meeting with the presidents of major universities in Gaza. The meeting focused on strategizing a collective humanitarian and academic response to the severe impact of the ongoing war on the higher education sector in the region.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Dr. Chaudhry conveyed a message of solidarity, expressing his concern for the plight of the Palestinian people, especially those in the academic community. He highlighted the immense challenges faced by academics, students, and researchers due to the ongoing destruction, while also acknowledging the inspiring resilience of the people of Gaza. Dr. Chaudhry reiterated COMSTECH’s dedication to supporting Gaza’s academic institutions during this critical period.
In the meeting, Dr. Chaudhry extended an invitation to university presidents from Gaza who are currently outside the Strip to visit Islamabad. This invitation aims to facilitate direct dialogue with key stakeholders and explore collaborative efforts to maintain academic education amidst these challenging circumstances.
Senior officials from COMSTECH also participated in the meeting, emphasizing the organization’s steadfast commitment to fostering educational resilience and aiding academic recovery in Gaza.
