The Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) participated on Monday in the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) conference for negotiations on air services (ICAN2024) in Kuala Lumpur.
According to a statement, the conference, in which 79 countries participated, aimed to provide an opportunity for civil aviation authorities in participating countries to negotiate the conclusion and development of air services agreements and discuss developments and updates in air transport.
CARC’s delegation met with representatives of Jamaica, Brunei, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Chad, Vietnam, Turkey, Ethiopia, the UAE, Belarus, South Africa, Russia, Egypt and Turkmenistan.
According to the statement, 4 air services agreements, two initialled protocols, 12 meeting minutes and memoranda of understanding were signed.
The discussions aimed to “liberalise” the airspace and increase the number of flights in line with the requirements of inter-regional traffic, allow multiple appointments of air transport institution
s and enable institutions to operate under the joint code with institutions of third-party countries without restrictions on the number of flights or operating points and amending air services agreements to include provisions related to aviation safety.
It was agreed to initiate national procedures for each party to sign the agreements and protocols agreed upon during the conference until they enter into force.
