Amman: The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, in cooperation with the Apostolic Churches and the Charity and Mercy Association in the city of Salt, organized a ceremony to light the Christmas tree at the Oqba Bin Nafeh Square (Visitor Center). The event was attended by members of parliament, Balqa Governorate Tourism Director Mahmoud Arabiyat, religious figures from both Christian and Muslim communities, and local residents, highlighting the city's spirit of brotherhood and coexistence.
According to Jordan News Agency, Ali Batayneh, head of the Salt Municipal Committee, stated that the Christmas tree lighting is a symbol of hope and peace, reflecting Jordan's identity of tolerance and diversity. Batayneh emphasized that Salt exemplifies coexistence under the Hashemite leadership. He extended his wishes for a joyful Christmas to the Christian community in Balqa Governorate and across the Kingdom, hoping for continued peace and prosperity in Jordan.
Michel Fashu, leading the Charity and Mercy Association, highlighted Salt as a model of coexistence. Archimandrite Father Christophoros Haddad, head of the Orthodox Church, remarked on the spiritual and historical significance of Christmas, underscoring the brotherhood between Muslims and Christians as a cornerstone of Jordanian history and identity.
