Cassation Court upholds death sentences in Zarqa boy assault case

The Court of Cassation Tuesday upheld a State Security Court ruling in the high-profile case in which a 16-year-old Zarqa boy was brutally assaulted by a group of people triggering outrage across the Kingdom.

The State Security Court handed down death sentences against six convicts and a 15-year prison term against another, while an eighth was sentenced to a 10-year jail term. Two others got a one-year prison term each.

The Higher Court confirmed that the State Security Court’s proceedings had been in accordance with all the legal requirements and upheld the ruling.

In October of 2020, the group kidnapped and brutally assaulted the boy in the eastern Zarqa governorate, chopping his upper limbs and gouging out one of his eyes in revenge for a previous homicide.
