Calls for cancelling customs fees on Jordanian, Syrian trucks

President of the Association of Owners of Clearance and Transport Companies, Deifallah Abu Aqouleh, has called for canceling customs duties imposed on Jordanian and Syrian trucks in order to facilitate and enhance commercial and transit traffic between the two countries

In a statement on Wednesday, Abu Aqouleh also asked to re-implement the memorandum of understanding and the deal that previously concluded between Jordan and Syria.

He also stressed the importance of allowing Jordanian, Syrian and Lebanese trucks to enter the territories of the three countries to revive trade movement, transit transport, and operate the Jordanian shipping fleet.

Abu Aqouleh demanded to re-run of the joint Jordanian-Syrian free trade zone, in light of its available logistical capabilities available that serve both countries.

On back to back (BTB) shipment system, he renewed his call to cancel it, pointing out that resuming the current procedures will shoulder Jordanian clearance and cargo transport companies great burdens and losses.

Clearance companies had attracted during the last period, traders and investors to use Aqaba port instead of other sea ports in other neighboring countries, he indicated.
