Asir Alive: Abundant Rain Revives Farms and Orchards

Abha, The recent heavy rains in the Asir region have breathed new life into the area’s farms, fields, and orchards. Lush greenery now carpets the plains and mountains in all governorates, in a dramatic transformation.

The bountiful rain also brought about a significant increase in agricultural production, particularly of corn, wheat, barley, seasonal fruits, and vegetables.

Wheat holds special significance among Asir’s grains, being a great source of food and nutrition. Corn follows closely as the second most important food grain crop in the region. Traditionally, sorghum holds its own as a key summer crop, thriving in high temperatures and being a reliable food source for people. Corn varieties include yellow corn, primarily used as animal feed, and Levantine corn.

Fruit production flourishes in areas with ample access to water. In terms of production and marketing, fruits rank third, behind grains and vegetables, but are a major draw for the thousands of visitors and tourists who flock to Asir during the
summer. These visitors relish the opportunity to explore the region’s governorates, villages, and countryside while savoring fresh fruit, particularly peaches, pomegranates, apricots, grapes, figs, quinces, and guavas.

The rain has turned Asir into a verdant paradise, enchanting residents and attracting those who seek natural beauty and delightful landscapes.
