Army Intercepts Drug-Smuggling Drone on Western Border

Amman: Army units and security agencies intercepted and downed a drone attempting to smuggle narcotics across the Kingdom’s western border early Friday morning, a military official announced. The operation was part of ongoing efforts to secure the nation’s borders against illegal activities.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Southern Military Region, in collaboration with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, detected the unmanned aerial system within its area of responsibility. The Border Guard forces quickly engaged, tracking and bringing the drone down inside Jordanian territory.

The confiscated drugs have been handed over to relevant authorities for further processing. The operation underscores the commitment of the Jordanian Armed Forces to combat drug trafficking and protect national security.

“The Jordanian Armed Forces’ Southern Military Region is working with full strength and resolve to prevent these illicit drugs from reaching our citizens and undermining national security,” the military source affirmed. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the region in combating cross-border smuggling and the proactive measures taken by the military to address these threats.
