The Arab region could become the first centre to develop the global green hydrogen market, thanks to successes achieved by the regional energy conference that was held under Royal patronage, in cooperation with German government and concluded its activities on Thursday, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, said.
In a press statement, Kharabsheh noted the conference, which saw the participation of some 1,000 participants from 40 countries, including 18 ministers, was a nucleus to exchange expertise and enhance joint cooperation through electric interconnection and green hydrogen projects in the Middle East and Europe.
The event, he noted, formed a model case for “successful” global action and showed the extent of the Kingdom’s involvement in international efforts in the energy sector.
The event also saw more bilateral projects, he said, adding that a number of agreements were concluded and the participating countries launched several discussions to enhance cooperation.
The participants showed a “remarkable” commitment to cooperation in all aspects of energy transition, such as energy efficiency, demand management, renewable sources, electric interconnection and energy supply security, the minister pointed out.
In this regard, he said the conference succeeded in highlighting priviliges of increasing Middle East, North Africa and Europe cooperation to achieve the Paris Agreement goals and provide safe, sustainable and affordable energy supplies.
During the conference, discussions highlighted the importance of adapting to climate change to achieve “true” sustainable development, to cope with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, cooperation, the statement added.
This ambition could be achieved by accelerating the global energy transformation, he said, stressing Middle East, North Africa and Europe’s future “major” role in this regard, he said.
Expansion of renewable energy is the focus of these future efforts, in addition to the huge potential offered by green hydrogen, he added.
Lauding Jordanian-German partnership program, he said it contributed to success of the two-day conference that discussed energy sector issues, especially hydrogen, energy efficiency, renewable energy and electric interconnection projects, commending Germany’s support to Jordan’s energy sector.
