Cairo: The Arab League Council, during an extraordinary session at its headquarters requested by the State of Palestine, has called on the U.S. President to honor commitments made to prevent the annexation of the occupied West Bank, aiming to foster peace, stability, and security in the region.
According to Jordan News Agency, the council also urged Argentina to reconsider relocating its embassy to Jerusalem, warning that such a move would severely damage Arab-Argentine relations, violate international law, and infringe upon Palestinian rights as per United Nations resolutions on Jerusalem.
The council condemned recent decisions by the Israeli government to annex West Bank territories, including East Jerusalem, expand settlements, and displace residents. It criticized the transfer of Hebron Municipality powers to the Israeli "Civil Administration," which it described as reinforcing occupation and apartheid while undermining the Ibrahimi Mosque's status.
The Arab League reaffirmed support for Palestinian rights, including self-determination and sovereignty within pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital. It rejected any attempts to separate Gaza from the West Bank, emphasizing Palestine's territorial unity.
The council denounced ongoing settler violence against Palestinians and called for international protection. It opposed Israeli actions against UNRWA, urging sustained support for its operations.
Condemning Israeli plans to annex Palestinian territories as war crimes, the council deemed such actions null and advocated for urgent diplomatic efforts by Arab entities globally to communicate this stance.
The council also tasked the Arab League Secretary-General with monitoring the implementation of these resolutions, with a report expected at the next council session.
