Arab league, India talk Palestinian cause

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and India’s Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar Saturday held a meeting in Cairo for a discussion on international issues of common concern, especially the Palestinian cause.

The official spokesman for the Secretary-General, Jamal Rushdie, said in a statement that the meeting focused on the war in Ukraine and its social and economic ramifications at an international level.

Rushdie noted that the Secretary-General affirmed that the Palestinian cause enjoys consensual political support within India, which continues to affirm the same commitment to supporting Palestinian rights, praising India’s continued support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

He added that Aboul Gheit and Jaishankar agreed on the importance of holding the next session of the Arab-Indian Cooperation Forum in New Delhi in the first half of 2023 after it was postponed several times.
