Cairo: Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has issued a warning regarding Israel’s efforts to undermine the international justice system with support from certain countries. He stated that these actions directly challenge the rule-based international order and could have extensive repercussions beyond the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where significant atrocities and massacres have occurred.
According to Jordan News Agency, during a meeting with the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, Aboul Gheit affirmed his complete support for Khan, who faces considerable pressure. He highlighted that Khan’s role is crucial in maintaining the credibility of the international justice system, an institution that has long been criticized for alleged double standards and hypocrisy.
Jamal Rushdi, spokesperson for the Arab League Secretary-General, mentioned that the discussions between Aboul Gheit and Khan centered on the severe crimes committed by Israeli forces in Gaza. The talks also covered the ICC’s mandate to pursue accountability for these violations, including prosecuting Israeli officials responsible for war crimes.
