Arab League calls supporting floods-hit Sudan

The Arab League has expressed solidarity with the appeal launched by Sudan to Arab and international organisations to assist it in facing the disasters of torrential rains and floods that swept the country.

The Secretary-General of the pan-Arab organisation, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Sunday noted the dire humanitarian situation and the need for urgent response and action on international and regional levels to save the Sudanese people from the repercussions of the humanitarian crisis.

The Spokesman for the Secretary-General, Jamal Rushdie, explained that the Arab League is communicating with the Sudanese authorities to agree on a response plan to address the gap between the damage caused by the disaster and the current level of response by the international community.
