Aqaba Transport Company Sees Record Surge in Commuter Numbers

Aqaba: Aqaba Transport Company has reported a record-breaking increase in public transport usage, with 416,000 commuters utilizing its services in the first quarter of 2026. This marks a significant growth rate of 51% compared to the 277,000 commuters recorded during the same period in 2025.

According to Jordan News Agency, the company achieved its highest monthly commuter figure in history in April 2026, with 202,000 users, bringing the total for the first four months of the year to an impressive 619,000. This surge highlights the growing reliance on public transport within the city as a primary means of mobility.

Mohammad Abu Omar, Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Investment, described the achievement as "a qualitative leap" in the company's operational efficiency. He noted that this progress builds on the company's success from the previous year, during which it served over 1.5 million people, thereby strengthening public confidence in Aqaba's transport services.

The company attributes these results to strategic projects aligned with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority's (ASEZA) goals, aimed at enhancing quality of life and promoting a green economy. Abu Omar emphasized ASEZA's support for the company, indicating plans to introduce 14 new buses and restructure transport routes to further improve service standards.

Khaled Abu Abdullah, CEO of Aqaba Company for Transport and Logistics, highlighted the role of fleet modernization, service expansion, and technological advancements, such as electronic payment and smart tracking systems, in achieving high operational efficiency and increasing commuter trust.
