Aqaba: The Aqaba Development Corporation launched Aqaba Stadium (previously Aqaba Development Corporation Stadium) on Tuesday in its revamped format after completing a comprehensive upgrade package aimed at raising sports infrastructure standards and enhancing facility readiness in line with international specifications.
According to Jordan News Agency, the project is part of an integrated development vision to strengthen Aqaba's sports ecosystem and provide modern venues capable of hosting tournaments and competitions. This initiative supports youth and sports activity and reinforces the city's regional and international sports profile.
Aqaba Development Corporation CEO Hussein Safadi stated that the relaunch reflects the corporation's commitment to a development approach aligned with HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II's directives. These directives emphasize youth empowerment, skills development, and enabling environments that support excellence, particularly in sport.
Safadi highlighted that the upgrade included technical and civil works to meet updated international specifications. This included the installation of a new giant screen and the replacement of the pitch surface with internationally certified next-generation artificial turf to enhance safety and optimize match conditions.
Additionally, the project delivered a complete lighting-system overhaul in line with FIFA requirements, upgraded spectator seating, modernized player benches and related equipment, fully refurbished players' facilities, and enhanced the main stand to meet organizational and official reception requirements.
He noted that the stadium adopted a new visual identity reflecting its status as a modern sports venue, and its official name was changed from "Aqaba Development Corporation Stadium" to "Aqaba Stadium" to strengthen its profile and support efforts to attract regional and international events.
The launch ceremony was attended by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Chief Commissioner Shadi Majali and Aqaba Governor Ayman Awaysheh, along with official, sports, community, and media representatives. The ceremony included a friendly match on the upgraded pitch, bringing together employees from ASEZA, the Aqaba Development Corporation, and the Aqaba Company for Ports Operation and Management against Shabab Al-Aqaba.
