Aqaba: The port city of Aqaba experienced a surge in its tourism sector in July, which significantly impacted hotel occupancy rates and commercial activities, particularly during weekends.
According to Jordan News Agency, Dr. Thabet Hassan Nabulsi, Commissioner for Tourism and Youth Affairs at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), disclosed that the average hotel occupancy rate in Aqaba reached approximately 68% across all hotel categories during weekends.
Nabulsi noted that the city’s hotels witnessed a notable increase in occupancy rates, with five-star hotels recording the highest rate at 76%. Four-star hotels saw an occupancy rate of 71%, while three-star hotels stood at 57%. This performance reflects a growing interest in Aqaba as a summer travel destination, both domestically and regionally.
Nabulsi attributed this success to the collaborative efforts between ASEZA, the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB), and other relevant entities in the public and private sectors. These institutions worked together to organize tourism and entertainment events, such as the Aqaba Waves Festival and “Jordan Summer Nights,” which played a crucial role in boosting domestic and international tourism.
