Amman to Host Jordanian-Syrian Economic Summit

Amman: Amman will host an economic summit for the Jordanian and Syrian business sectors next Monday, coinciding with a visit by a high-level Syrian economic delegation and the participation of Syrian Minister of Economy and Trade Mohammad Nidal al-Shaar. President of the Amman Chamber of Commerce Khalil Haj Tawfiq said the visit's program includes a Jordanian-Syrian economic forum and a high-level joint economic meeting attended by al-Shaar, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Yarub Qudah, the presidents of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce and the Damascus Chamber of Commerce, and private-sector representatives.

According to Jordan News Agency, Haj Tawfiq said a formal twinning agreement between the Amman and Damascus Chambers of Commerce will be signed during the visit, aimed at enhancing economic, trade, and investment cooperation and developing institutional partnerships within a sustainable framework serving mutual interests. He said the agreement represents a practical step toward rebuilding economic ties between Jordan and Syria and activating trade cooperation based on institutional foundations, adding that the next phase will include clear implementation plans and the formation of joint working committees to address challenges, overcome obstacles, expand cooperation, and increase trade volumes.

Haj Tawfiq highlighted the importance of strengthening communication between businesspeople, building mutual trust, and creating a more flexible environment for the movement of goods and services, noting that bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the forum will serve as a starting point for new economic partnerships and future private-sector cooperation.
