Amman: The Amman Group for Future Dialogues recently organized a seminar titled "An Overview of Jordan TV Programming and Ramadan Schedule," featuring key insights from Jordan Radio and Television Corporation (JRTV) Board Chairman Ghaith Tarawneh and Director General Ibrahim Al-Bawareed. The event, attended by the group's president Bilal Hassan Al-Tal, members, and media professionals, focused on JRTV's strategic programming and national broadcasting goals.
According to Jordan News Agency, Tarawneh emphasized the importance of catering to the Jordanian family through JRTV's programming plan, which aims to address children, youth, and women professionally. He highlighted the increasing costs of television production amid technological advancements and stressed that supporting Jordanian drama is a shared responsibility. The updated content on JRTV platforms is designed to enhance Jordanian national identity, with a new programming plan featuring 34 programs targeting diverse age groups. An independent committee evaluates scripts before production, and the production budget has increased to nearly JD2 million, up from JD700,000 last year, primarily supporting national output.
Al-Bawareed highlighted JRTV's pioneering status among Arab media institutions, despite challenges from satellite channels and modern media. He noted JRTV's specialization in sports, economic channels, children's programming, and drama, broadcasting on eight platforms. Since 2019, digital media and social networks have become crucial, with JRTV launching digital platforms to provide content access anytime. Traditional television viewership has declined, with surveys indicating average screen time of less than one hour daily. JRTV's platforms have around 14 million followers, emphasizing its role as a national broadcaster for Jordanian families.
Al-Bawareed also noted that supporting national production involves collaboration with private production companies. The Ramadan programming cycle offers variety to meet Jordanian family needs, with historical drama series being particularly costly, with budgets reaching millions of dinars.
