Amman:The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has initiated measures to enhance its infrastructure in preparation for the winter season of 2026-2027, aiming to mitigate risks associated with severe weather conditions influenced by climate change.
According to Jordan News Agency, GAM's municipal crews are currently engaged in mapping, numbering, and logging all stormwater drainage sites onto regulatory maps and GIS systems. This effort is intended to facilitate rapid response and maintenance tracking.
In addition, work is being conducted across various regions to clear natural valleys, streams, and culverts using heavy machinery to ensure the unobstructed flow of water. As a precaution, GAM has advised informal encampments located along flood-prone stream beds to move to safer areas, with heavy tracked vehicles ready for emergency deployment.
GAM has further reported that field teams are actively inspecting and clearing drainage networks, bridges, and tunnels. They are also servicing water pumps and suction equipment to ensure full technical and operational readiness ahead of potential heavy rainfall.
