Amman and Astana Strengthen Urban Cooperation Efforts

Amman:Head of Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) Committee, Ahmad Malkawi, met with Kazakh Ambassador to Jordan, Talgat Shaldanbay, to discuss urban cooperation between the cities of Amman and Astana.

According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting took place at the GAM's headquarters, where both sides explored ways to strengthen bilateral relations and mechanisms for joint cooperation across various sectors.

Malkawi highlighted the strong foundation of Jordanian-Kazakh relations, emphasizing GAM's commitment to enhancing bilateral ties and supporting joint initiatives that contribute to quality services and sustainable development. Ambassador Shaldanbay acknowledged the deep ties between the two nations and praised Amman's progress in municipal development and infrastructure improvement.

Shaldanbay also reiterated his government's willingness to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise in areas of mutual interest. The Greater Amman Municipality has a twinning agreement with the Municipality of Astana, which facilitates the exchange of expertise in urban planning, environmental protection, public health, and city infrastructure. Additionally, the two cities collaborate in cultural activities and heritage preservation.

In 2010, Amman named a street after Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, while two streets in Astana were named after the late King Hussein bin Talal and the city of Amman, reflecting the enduring relationship between the two capitals.
