Agriculture research centre talks olive farming challenges in Ajloun

The National Center for Agricultural Research (NCAR) Tuesday held a meeting with olive growers in the town of al-Hashmiyah in Ajloun on the challenges facing olive farming as part of the projects of the national plan for sustainable development implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Director-General of NARC, Nizar Haddad, said that the centre seeks to enhance the comparative advantage in the economic value chain of olive trees, their oil and their products and employ them in agricultural eco-tourism.

Haddad noted the importance of networking with farmer field schools in the National Center for Agricultural Research and establishing a cooperative association specialised in olive farming for farmers in the region.

Haddad highlighted the national plan led by NARC in partnership with researchers in Jordanian universities to document the genetic maps of plants and farm animals, which led to the publication of the genetic map of the municipal bees and the recording of the genetic code of the improved Jordanian Awassi sheep breeds.
