Activities of 2nd LCoY climate change kicks off

Activities of the second Local Conference of Youth (LCoY) on climate change on Wednesday kicked off here, in the presence of Ministers of Youth, Mohammad Nabulsi, and Environment, Muawieh Radaideh.

The event, which was organized, in partnership between youth and environment ministries, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) office in Jordan and Generations For Peace, aims to raise societal awareness of climate changes and involve young people in finding possible solutions to address related challenges, according to a joint statement issued by youth and environment ministries.

Under the umbrella of YOUNGO, the official youth constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the conference provided an opportunity to some 100 young men and women interested in climate action to exchange views and discussions with climate experts and then present their proposals and solutions to local and international decision-makers, the statement said.

LCoY is a starting point for the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), which is scheduled to be held next month in Egypt.

The two-day conference includes several axes, focusing on climate change impact on Jordan’s youth and related youth-led action.

Its activities also include a panel discussion on climate education and youth engagement, and an interactive session on “Climate Change – Current Global Situation and Efforts to Mitigate and Adapt,” and workshops on related challenges, policy development, and advocacy for climate action.
