Amman: Lower House Acting Speaker Khamees Attieh has announced the successful completion of a legislative package during the current ordinary session, which includes the passage of 19 priority laws. These laws span various economic, social, and political sectors and were part of the 23 draft laws submitted for discussion. This achievement was highlighted during an interview on the Jordan Television's "60 Minutes" program, hosted by journalist Anas Al-Majali.
According to Jordan News Agency, Attieh emphasized that the Lower House has worked in a spirit of teamwork, aligning with the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the broader political modernization agenda. The legislative body has not only focused on law-making but also on oversight responsibilities, monitoring government performance, holding specialized oversight sessions, and addressing citizens' concerns to enhance transparency and accountability.
Attieh highlighted the significant role played by parliamentary committees in finalizing legislation. Through extensive dialogue with official institutions, professional associations, and civil society organizations, these committees ensured that the laws serve the national interest while considering diverse viewpoints. He affirmed that the House would continue its efforts, including amending its internal regulations to align with the political modernization framework and collective institutional work principles.
The Acting Speaker also touched on the cooperative efforts with the government on key issues such as investment, poverty reduction, unemployment, and enhancing citizen communication to support national development. During the program, Attieh revealed that parliamentary committees held nearly 350 meetings, facilitating flexible discussions on draft laws and resulting in minimal amendments during parliamentary sessions. He noted that around 248 interventions were presented during legislative sessions, underlining the comprehensive nature of parliamentary performance beyond the number of oversight sessions alone.
Looking ahead, Attieh mentioned that if an extraordinary parliamentary session is convened, lawmakers are anticipated to discuss the Local Administration Law and the Real Estate Ownership Law, while potential amendments to the House's internal regulations remain on the agenda. He concluded by stressing the need for intensified efforts from the House of Representatives to address the numerous challenges facing the country.
