ACC chairman calls for organizing Jordanian-Palestinian economic meeting

Chairman of Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) Khalil Hajj Tawfiq called for organizing a Jordanian-Palestinian economic meeting that includes private sector players next month in Amman, to discuss issues that hinder economic relations between the two countries.

Speaking to a meeting with the chairman and members of the Palestinian Businessmen Forum Council in Hebron, Hajj Tawfiq said that ACC pledges to follow up on outcomes of the meeting with stakeholders to resolve issues in a manner that achieves the interests of all.

Hajj Tawfiq underlined the necessity of preparing for a Jordanian-Palestinian investment meeting, that includes business owners from inside Palestine and those residing outside Palestine in order to showcase economic and investment opportunities available in the Kingdom in many important strategic sectors and to benefit from advantages and supportive incentives, an ACC statement issued Saturday cited Hajj Tawfiq as saying.

Hajj Tawfiq said that enhancing and deepening Jordanian-Palestinian economic cooperation in the current stage will enhance the steadfastness of jerusalemites in the occupied Jerusalem and Palestine as a whole, stressing the need for private sector institutions to take the initiative to develop the two countries’ commercial relations and overcome any difficulties.

He called on private sector institutions to take the initiative to develop trade relations between the two countries and overcome any obstacles.

He pointed out that the ACC is about to launch an e-platform that includes detailed information on the Jordanian and Palestinian economies and trade and investment opportunities available on both sides, in addition to holding a permanent exhibition of Palestinian products at the ACC’s headquarters to inform visiting delegations of Palestinian products and merchandise to help promote them in export markets.

He affirmed the ACC’s readiness to put all its technical capabilities at the disposal of the Palestinian private sector, based on the great role that Jordan plays, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, to support the Palestinian people in all international forums to obtain their rights and protect the holy sites.

Hajj Tawfiq focused on the importance of meetings between business owners from the two countries, which will reflect on their economic relations and overcome difficulties they face as a result of the obstacles imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities, and limit the increase in their trade exchanges to maintain their dominance over the Palestinian economy.

Head of the Palestinian Businessmen Forum in Hebron, Amer Al-Osaili, In turn, underscored the importance of economic and trade relations between the two countries and the need for cooperation to find prospects for exchanging Jordanian-Palestinian products, stressing that “our interests are one, which requires working as a team.”

He explained out that the forum, which was established in 1995, includes 250 major Palestinian companies from various economic sectors, highlighting some challenges facing the Palestinian investor in the Kingdom and the importance of finding solutions to them as they will help the flow of Palestinian investments to Jordan.

Al-Osaili and the delegation members valued the facilities provided by the Kingdom to support the Palestinian economy.

For their part, members of the Jordanian-Palestinian Business Forum stressed the need to increase trade exchange between the two countries and the need to increase cooperation between the Jordanian and Palestinian private sectors.

The meeting also covered issues that contribute to boosting bilateral trade relations, including joint investments and removing obstacles regarding the movement of business owners and granting Palestinian investors and traders special treatment.
