Amman:A terrorist stabbing attack in Amman resulted in the death of Corporal Jawad Ali Khalaf Salayta, with another officer injured during the assailant's arrest. The incident occurred on Thursday while Salayta was on official duty.
According to Jordan News Agency, the attack took place at 1220 p.m. on Madina Munawara Street. The assailant ambushed Salayta, stabbing him with a sharp weapon. A security patrol quickly intervened, managing to subdue and arrest the attacker after a struggle.
Salayta was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. The officer leading the patrol sustained facial injuries during the confrontation and was also hospitalized, though his condition is reported to be stable.
Preliminary investigations by security authorities suggest that the attacker had planned and intended to carry out a terrorist attack against public security personnel. The suspect is currently being questioned by authorities.
The Public Security Directorate expressed its condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased corporal.
