Amman:Department of Palestinian Affairs (DPA) Director General Rafiq Khirfan and Director of United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Affairs in Jordan Amanya Michael Ebye have engaged in discussions focusing on the challenges faced by community-based rehabilitation centers for persons with disabilities.
According to Jordan News Agency, the discussions highlighted the need for suitable solutions to settle the centers' legal status to ensure continuous service provision. Khirfan emphasized the significance of these centers in serving persons with disabilities through various rehabilitation and social programs. He also mentioned the government's commitment to supporting these initiatives through Royal programs and the DPA's ongoing projects.
Ebye reiterated UNRWA's dedication to assisting persons with disabilities but acknowledged the financial challenges and budget deficit that hinder service continuity and response to increasing needs. Both Khirfan and Ebye listened to the concerns of the centers' heads and representatives, who expressed difficulties in paying salaries and covering operating expenses, thus impacting service delivery.
Participants in the meeting called for enhanced coordination and cooperation between the department, UNRWA, and the centers to address financial, administrative, and legal challenges, ensuring the continued operation of these centers for the benefit of persons with disabilities in the camps.
