AFC Reschedules Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia to December 2027

Riyadh:The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced the postponement of the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia, now set to take place from December 23, 2027, to January 21, 2028. The tournament was initially slated for January 7 to February 5, 2027.

According to Jordan News Agency, the decision to reschedule followed extensive consultations with the tournament's Local Organising Committee and the Saudi Arabian Football Federation. This move was prompted by exceptional circumstances and regional developments that presented logistical challenges, notably in travel and transportation.

The AFC stated that the revised schedule is designed to consider the interests of national teams, officials, fans, and other stakeholders involved. The confederation also noted its commitment to working closely with the local organizing committee, national football associations, and relevant partners to mitigate the impact of the postponement and ensure the tournament meets required standards.

Additionally, the AFC mentioned that the proposed dates are subject to FIFA approval. Further updates on organizational arrangements will be communicated through the AFC's official channels. This event marks the first time Saudi Arabia will host the Asian Cup, featuring 24 national teams competing in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al Khobar.
