Ministry Launches Third Phase to Enhance Energy Efficiency in Government Buildings

Amman:The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, in partnership with the German Energy Academy in Jordan and the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ), has initiated the third phase of the Energy Efficiency Improvement Program for Government Buildings. This phase commenced at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, with a focus on implementing findings from an energy audit, installing measurement and verification equipment, and enhancing energy savings.

According to Jordan News Agency, the program aims to install systems for measuring and verifying energy consumption and actual savings in the buildings of the Ministries of Industry, Trade and Supply, Health, Youth, Finance, and Labor. The objective is to assess the impact of implemented measures and compare them with projections and estimates from the energy audit study.

This phase includes optimizing central cooling system schedules, replacing individual air-conditioning units with more efficient models, adjusting operational temperatures in data centers, replacing traditional lighting with LED units, and promoting energy conservation awareness among staff. The energy audit for the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply indicated potential annual savings of approximately JD7,449, with a payback period of less than one year, corresponding to 4% of the building's total energy bill.

The initiative aligns with the government's strategy to enhance energy-use efficiency, contributing to a 20% reduction in consumption. The Council of Ministers has approved the necessary measures to implement this project, which is part of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources' priorities to expand energy-efficiency solutions across government facilities.
