JEDCO Engages in Arab-African Forum on IP and Export Competitiveness

Addis Ababa:The Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO) is actively participating in the Arab-African Interregional Forum on Intellectual Property and Export Competitiveness, which commenced on Tuesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

According to Jordan News Agency, the three-day forum is organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in collaboration with the Ethiopian Intellectual Property Authority. It gathers representatives from Arab and African institutions focused on enterprise development and export promotion.

JEDCO's CEO, Ghaleb Hijazi, is representing the corporation at this event, taking place from October 27 to 29. JEDCO aims to enhance international cooperation and explore methods to leverage intellectual property systems to boost the competitiveness of Jordanian enterprises and expand their market reach globally and regionally.

The corporation emphasizes that this initiative supports efforts to elevate exports of goods and services and to create growth opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The forum's agenda focuses on the role of intellectual property in enhancing export competitiveness, encompassing discussions on international protection mechanisms like the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), the Madrid System for the international registration of trademarks, and the Hague System for the registration of industrial designs.

Participants are also exploring improvements in services for exporters, enhancing cooperation among relevant institutions, and assisting businesses in protecting their intellectual assets as they expand into foreign markets. Additionally, the forum addresses challenges in securing intellectual property rights and the need for developing institutional frameworks and advisory services that promote innovation and export development.

JEDCO noted that the forum offers a platform for exchanging expertise with regional and international partners, identifying practices that could aid Jordanian businesses in strengthening their competitive position. Building partnerships and enhancing access to knowledge in innovation, intellectual property, and international trade are crucial to JEDCO's mission to support enterprise growth and boost the sector's contribution to the national economy.
