Jordanian Trade Unions and ILO Host Workshop on Crisis Communication Skills

Amman:The General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU), in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO), has initiated a three-day workshop aimed at enhancing the communication skills of trade unions during crises.

According to Jordan News Agency, the workshop is organized in partnership with the ILO's Bureau for Workers' Activities (ACTRAV) and gathers union representatives and experts to develop strategic communication skills, improve media engagement, and strengthen advocacy on workers' rights.

The training focuses on institutional communication strategies that align with trade union objectives, ensuring effective message delivery to workers, policymakers, and the public. GFJTU President Khaled Fanatseh highlighted the challenges posed by rapid technological changes, the rise of artificial intelligence, and misinformation, emphasizing the need for updated communication practices to protect workers' rights.

Fanatseh mentioned that the workshop offers union representatives the chance to enhance digital communication skills and manage media campaigns, facilitating better communication of workers' demands. Mustafa Said, the ILO's official for the Arab region, stressed the significance of ongoing collaboration to boost trade unions' communication capabilities, noting that effective strategies can promote social stability and justice.

The workshop includes sessions on crisis communication, misinformation, artificial intelligence, and the creation of communication plans for emergencies. Participants will also learn to write trade union stories, manage communication during strikes, and respond to cyberattacks. The sessions are conducted by ACTRAV communications officer Mamadou Souare, GFJTU adviser Nizam Qahoush, journalist Abdullah Rbeihat, and technology expert Qusai Shaheen.
